3 Essential Steps before you stage your home for a sale
You have decided to sell your home and now your are looking around and thinking “who would want to buy this place looking like this?” We all have busy lives and with busy lives comes stuff, disorder, and dare I say a mess. It’s hard seeing how to get started sometimes and that is exactly why we’ve written today’s blog on what needs to get done before you consider staging your home for a sale.
Do you want to stage your home but don’t know where to start?
Getting ready for a move takes a lot of organization. Believe it or not your home has a lot of life left, and someone will be very excited to take it over for you as you move onto your next adventure. A little attention to detail and your ready to knock the socks off a potential buyer!
3 Essential Steps before you stage your home for a sale!
We love this part of the job with The Happy Nest because organization is our middle name. These essential steps will get you ready to stage your home. Ready, Set, GO!
Step 1. Declutter and Depersonalize:
We all have clutter, take a good look around and start getting rid of the clutter. Remember to rehouse, sell, donate, recycle whenever possible with items that you are ready to let go of!
Depersonalizing give others the chance to see themselves living in the house. Take down photos of people in your life, art that are personal, degrees, certificates, trophies, memorabilia, or anything with family names.
HAPPY TIP: While you are decluttering be sure to assess what might be useful for a stage, neutral items, pillows, blankets, art…as long as they are not personal they could very well contribute the the staging process.
Step 2. Re-pair & Paint:
Walls get dirty, dinged up and even out of date. Repair the walls and giving them a fresh coat of paint can make all the difference when it comes to staging to sell you home.
HAPPY TIP: you won’t regret getting a painter for this job and picking a neutral color – sometimes people can’t see past dark, bright colored walls. Neutral colors invoke a peaceful feel, exactly what you want your potential buyers to feel as they view the home.
Step 3. Cleaning:
We think that cleaning is an obvious step before staging to sell you home. Taking the extra step to do a deep clean of the carpets, windows, lights/chandeliers, and even furniture changes the energy of the home and buyers can feel it!
HAPPY TIP : If cleaning isn’t your thing you will not regret hiring a professional!
BONUS TIP : Replace your lightbulbs! Make sure it is bright in your home, buyers want everything to work – even the lightbulbs.
These steps might feel like a lot. Moving is a process and it is what you sign up for when you are selling your home. The amazing thing is that you will feel great when you get top dollar for your house AND that your home was left in the best condition for someone else to live in. That’s just good karma.
